Modern Fall Centerpieces

"To sit, to sleep, to dream."

What is the first thought you have when you think of fold-out sofa sleepers?

"Uncomfortable," or "Sleepless night" maybe?

We have all slept on those horrible fold-out sofa sleepers where you can't get a minute of 'shut-eye' resulting from the bar or spring pressing into your back, or you just can't get comfortable because the mattress sags in the middle and you keep sliding to the center of the bed. Because of sleepless nights experienced on these type of traditional sofa sleeper, many people tend to shy away from them.

Well, there really is a better solution. We promise!!

A sofa sleeper that is comfortable as both a sofa and a bed...

No bars, no springs, and no sagging!!!

-Winner of the Comsumer Digest's best value in sofa sleepers-

So, what makes it so different?

A lot of things...

-Patented 24/7 platform sleep system features a solid platform base under the entire mattress, hence you bars protruding into your back.

-The mattresses are covered in Crypton fabric, which is a waterproof & stain-proof covering that also resists allergens and dust mites.

-The mattress is made up of 5 inches of plush, high-density foam that provides ergonomic support. The Comfort Sleeper can also be ordered with a Tempur-Pedic mattress.

-The Comfort Sleeper is available in a variety of sizes ranging from a King to a Cot to fit any room.

-A choice of over hundreds of fabrics and over 80 premium leathers.

- Nine different styles to pick from.

-All hardwood frames.

-Lifetime warranty on frame & suspension.

Come into one of our showrooms to try out The Comfort Sleeper.
That's right come lay on one, just no drooling!

We promise you won't find a better sofa sleeper!

Note: All images came from the American Leather Comfort Sleeper Brochure.

How to Spice up a Room

1) Add some color.

Just adding a 'pop' of color to a room can make a huge difference. This can be achieved through painting a wall an accent color, painting the inside of a bookshelf a contrasting color, adding some colorful throw pillows to a sofa, or placing an intriguing rug on the floor.

2) Splurge on an 'eye catching' piece of furniture.

This could be acheived through using a zebra ottoman, a wildy upholstered chair,
or a funky cocktail table, to name a few examples.

3) Place bold accessories in the space.

Instead of cluttering up a space with small trinket-like accessories use
bold accessories that stand out and make a statement.

4) Hang a mirror(s) on the wall.

Mirrors can make a small space look larger. Look for mirrors that are unique in shape, or have an interesting frame - there are a lot of really cool mirrors out there (we have some in our showroom, come check them out).

5) Update the lighting fixtures.

Consider adding a little 'bling' by hanging a unqiue chandlier instead of your average flush mount lighting fixture or a dull ceiling lamp. Use hanging pendants over a bar or counter instead of recessed lighting. Find a funky table lamp to sit on the end table, instead of that boring lamp found at Wal-Mart for $15.

6) Place a fresh floral arrangement on the cocktail table.

7) Clear away clutter.

Just making a few small adjustments can really add a 'wow' factor to your room.

Hanging Art 101

Arrangements of framed photography or wall art can really liven up a room. Art should show off your personality. Finding just the right piece of art for a space is like finding the perfect bow for a gift - it's just the right finishing touch.

So, have you found the perfect piece of art? But not sure how or where to hang it?
Scroll down for a few helpful hints.

-Mid point of art should to hung at eye level, which is approximately 60 to 65 inches from the floor. This is just a starting point. There are a lot of different factors that play into this depending on where the art is being hung (ie: in a hallway, over a sofa or buffet, etc)

- If positioning art over furniture (sofa, console table, bookcase, etc.) hang it so that it relates to furniture piece, usually about 5 to 8 inches. If it is hung to high, the art will look separate or apart from the furniture piece.

- Be mindful of the balance in the room. Do not hang all of the art on one side of the room, leaving the other side empty, the room will look off-balanced.

- Make sure the scale of the art is comparable to the scale of what it is being hung over. (ie: don't hang a heavy-looking mirror over a dainty and small console table)

- Do not hang a small lonely piece of art on a large wall. This arrangement is not appealing to the eye and the art peice will just look awkward.

-For a uniform & structured look,
hang art in a grid pattern.

- For a more unorganized and unexpected
look, arrange art asymmetrically.

- To add diversity to an arrangement, use frames and mats that are different sizes and shapes, but compliment each other.

- Off center art and place with other accessories for a more
eye-cathing arrangement.

- Art doesn't always have to be hung. It can sit on a furniture piece and lean against the wall. (Just make sure it is stable.)

-Consider lighting to really show off your art.

Note: San Francisco Design in no way takes credit for the pictures used in this post. They are merely pretty pictures for you to enjoy, that have been found in different design magazines and online.

Accessorizing Bookcases

Bookcases can really make a design statement in a room. Unlike furniture, the items in a bookcase can be changed on a whim when ready for a new look.
So have fun with it!

Here are a few 'book - smart' tips:

1) Arrange your books like art. Don't just fill in an entire book case with books, like you would see in your neighborhood library. Highlight your books. Group 3 or 5 together, and place with an eye-catching accessory.

2) Remember that bookcases don't neccessarily have to house books. There is not one book in the below picture, but rather a collection of bold keepsakes. This does NOT mean fill your bookcase with meaniless, dust collecting knickknacks. Select bigger and bolder accessories that stand out.

A few suggestions of items that can be placed in a bookcase include, but are limited to: candlesticks, decorative bowls, vases, decorative boxes, picture frames, sculptures, plants, baskets, etc...

3) Assymetrical grouping are best. Vary height of accessories, having everything the same height is boring and doesn't appeal to the eye.

4) Hang art/ mirrors over bookcase for an unique look.

5) Decorate your bookcase by theme. Fill your bookcase with a collection of something you love in varying sizes and designs.

... Just a few more tips:

6) Put smaller objects on the top and bigger items on the bottom, so the arrangement doesn't appear top heavy.
7) Remove jackets on books if actual book is more appealing.

8) If you don't really have books to use, look in second-hand stores.

9)Add something unusual and unexpected to your bookcase.

10) Try different arrangements. If you don't like it, try something else.
